She's  landed in Maine

Houston: Is there a problem? Yep, lots of 'em! A land yacht with Texas plates in a Maine hayfield.

Hi y'all I'm Deb. AKA: Debbie Hayes. But yeah, I'm Deb.

We landed late August at midnight in an old RV with four kids—infant to five year old twins.

We bought 40 acres: To build a log home before the snow flew.

OK. Stop laughing.

Needless to say, the November winds were quickly blowing down our necks.

But that's a saga for another day.

So let's just shuttle over 8 years and get to the farm...

Mom, I bought a farm!

In 2004, I moved our family of four kiddos to Maine all the way from Texas—looking for a lifestyle change. Then in 2012, bought this run down farm. Her gingerbread porch sat prettily across from a lake. How could I resist her? Of course she needed loads of TLC.

Early 2016 ended an almost 20 year troubled marriage. I became a single mom. He vanished and I raised our kids alone. I kept the farm intact and my widowed Dad moved from Texas to live in the renovated ell built on my farmhouse—salvaged from the beautiful barn that burned down decades before.

Look Up Not Back

It's been an adventure. Life changing, for sure! It's held dreams that were in ways realized, ruined, and reinvented. And it's always been my dream to somehow share this special corner of Maine with others.

As I've worked hard fixing things up, it's also worked its magic on me—just to get up, dust off, and look up toward that amazing sky. Life metaphors are hard to miss around here. It's been a labor of love, and after over a decade, truly feels like our family farm.

We have ponies, cats, and a pea hen that came from no where and she stayed put. I've often wondered if I'm in a random episode of Gilmore Girls! We've raised broods of baby chicks, ducks, turkeys, and bunnies. But as life goes, my kids have now flown the coop, too! And... that's her story.

But wait! There's a new chapter!

Meadow Lake Farm

So, what brought you all the way to Maine? How'd you get up here from Texas? Have you made it through a whole winter yet?

Any other questions?? I'm sure there are! Anyhoo, I'll take Maine winters over Texas summers any day—or poisonous snakes, scorpions, fire ants, chiggers, and mile deep cracks in the lawn.

Growing up in Lucas, Texas was great. And I truly thank it for my southern drawl that will forever comfort me (and get me the questions listed above).

Meanwhile, I fell in love. I fell in love with this insane natural beauty around me everyday. I fell in love with this old farmhouse, big barn, and tiny town.

And, finally, I fell in love with a Mainer man with the best Mainer accent & Mainer-isms I could ask for—a bit of a flannel fairytale.

Wanna hear more? In case ya do...
