Summer Farmhouse

Maine

Summer Farmhouse

A Maine summer around here isn't a rolled out carpet. It's rolled up sleeves.

It's clipped hydrangeas in a pitcher, wrinkled linens, open windows, unfinished books, cold drinks, bare feet on the porch, and evening walks. Mostly, it's savoring the long summer days between projects, chores, and too much grass to mow. But we ignore the dump trucks rolling by at 6 a.m. and by the end of the day, take in another amazing sunset.

The Summer Porch

Also dubbed 'The Verandahhh' due to my southern accent and more obvious reasons. My gingerbread porch is where gossip flies, Harley riders are ignored (or roasted), sangrias are sipped... and somehow five minutes mysteriously turns into five hours.

Summer Hosting

Nothing motivates housework quicker than a text, "Hey, are you around today?" I'd most likely never host if it weren't for those texts. But I'm always grateful for them! So I keep things handy, not too precious, just on standby for an impromptu happy hour or sit down.

Summer Rhythms

In Maine, the weather forecast is less a prediction than a suggestion. And rules the way our days go. If I thought I'd get mowing done on Wednesday, heavy clouds say, "Think again, dear." That unpredictability is truly our salvation, and we uncannily adapt on cue.

Summer Writing

I'm an author with a couple novels and future plot twists forever running in my head. Which means I'm always giving life the side eye as it trolls me each week. Sometimes daily. If this sounds eerily familiar, grab a chair. We're swapping notes now!

Summer on Meadow Lake Farm

Old farms on 20 acres don't believe in finished projects. More like taking turns. Grass grows faster than my to-do list and six five-gallon gas cans are the minimum requirement for country living. But then the mist rises on the lake. And I stand with a stupid grin.
